Education Minister Paul Givan visits Saintfield High School
Saintfield High School was delighted to welcome Minister of Education, Mr Paul Givan, on Wednesday 24th April.
Mr Givan enjoyed a tour of the school’s buildings, before experiencing (and indeed, participating in!) a series of practical lessons, and listening to an impassioned presentation from the school’s Senior Prefect Team. During their Technology and Design lesson, a group of Year 10 pupils presented Minister Givan with a wooden plaque, which they had crafted for him, in honour of his visit to Saintfield High School.
Mr Givan was very pleased to learn that as a result of the school’s continued post-primary demand for places at Year 8 (for over 25 years), they have been granted a significant Temporary Variation to enrolment for 2024-2025 for the third consecutive year of an additional Form Class of pupils.
Sarah-Lucy Hynds, Principal, commented that, ‘we are simply thrilled that we have been granted, yet again, an increase to enrolment to better meet the needs of our community – we expressed to Minister Givan the positive impact that this continues to have on our pupils and their families. The Saintfield High School community continues to look forward to a very bright future’.

Juliet Stevenson-Bowen -Canoe Polo
Juliet and her team won gold for Ulster in the under 14 category at the weekend in Germany. They played eight games in total with seven wins and one draw, meaning they are the undefeated champions and the first Ulster team to claim this victory in Germany. The competition was the The Allbau Cup, a national junior competition.
Juliet and The team continue their winning streak after claiming the gold medal at the Junior international competition last summer where they defeated China with a golden goal. Enthusiasm, persistence, resilience, and an insurmountable amount of commitment to their training, has served them well in holding on to the top spot.
Congratulations to Juliet and the team. Well done.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
